Centennium Book

On March 5, 2026, the Utrecht Historical Student Circle (UHSK) will celebrate its 100th anniversary. To commemorate this significant occasion, a mixed editorial board of staff members and students of History at Utrecht University aims to publish a work. This publication is intended to be more than just a centennium book that recounts the history of the UHSK. We see this as an excellent opportunity to investigate the history of Utrecht's history students through a number of scientifically grounded yet engaging articles. The UHSK is a study association that is physically and socially close to the university and serves as the main hub for many students during their studies. Changes in the position, role, and structure of the UHSK tell a broader story about how student life and the university have gained different societal significance since the beginning of the twentieth century. A contract has been established with the publisher WBooks, and the book will be officially presented at the UHSK's 100th anniversary in March 2026.

The editorial board for the book, working under the title of 'A Century of UHSK – 100 Years of Student Life in Utrecht, 1926-2026', consists of four staff members from the Department of GKG at Utrecht University: Mette Bruinsma, Sarah Carmichael, Elise van Nederveen Meerkerk, and Jorrit Steehouder, along with two student members from the UHSK, Jasmijn Cox and Chiara Evans. Additionally, three interns are contributing to the data collection for the book: Lieke Loman, Aigui Thewissen, and Zita Zwart.
